Meta Quest 3: Everything We Know So Far

4 min read

As the title may suggest, the Meta Quest 3 radar is pinging. Meta is proudly confirming the beginnings of a far thinner and lighter headset this year. So we are already scoring top points for comfort, but what else will be unraveled with this new headset from Meta

Some of the statements may surprise you, and many of you are curious about the price point that the Quest 3 will have. They’ve really been taking a new step in terms of tech, and now we think we are finally getting a glimpse of something that will be accessible for all types of purposes and users.

So shall we get into the details? We’re excited and you should be too.

When is the Quest 3 coming out?

So the VR community has been asking, when will the Quest 3 be coming out?

Meta confirmed that the launch of the Quest 3 will happen this Fall - 2023.

Last year’s headset was released at the Meta Connect event, and there's little that we should expect to change this year.

We can expect the headset to come as early as October 2023, with a release date being confirmed as early as sometime this summer in August.

How much will it cost?

As for the Meta Quest 3 price, this is one of the most interesting details. The Quest 3 will hold a similar price tag to the Quest 2’s initial release. Except now we have a tonne more tech improvements, and the value for money is unreal.

This headset will be priced starting from $499. But we cannot confirm if it will cost more - for sure with the usual add-ons that Meta provides with every release it could cost substantially more, but then you’d be living in the VR dream.

Will Quest 3 have a new design?

The Meta Quest 3 design will have some changes for sure! It is still retaining the ski goggles look, but it has been confirmed to be lighter and thinner with no compromise in materials. The headset will have a 40% slimmer optic profile, and it has remained wireless.

The Facer cover and materials have been changed for more comfortable use over longer periods. The Quest 3 will also have dock compatibility, similar to that of the Pro. The addition of the dock will make charging more convenient.

There are also big changes to the controllers. Buttons will remain in the same places but there will be the removal of the rings, resulting in improved tracking and more freedom of movement. Sensors will be in the controllers instead, and this is confirmed to improve tracking. The controllers will also be lighter.

Which will be the Meta Quest 3 specs?

The Oculus Quest 3 specs are incredible, if we think about it it's practically 3 years' worth of innovation in one new headset - including a lot of the tech similar or superior to that of the Quest Pro which has an initial price of $1499.

Meta has come a long way with this one. Thanks to all the leaks, we have a good idea of this kit's spec.

For the processor, we can expect a Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2, which is a much-improved upgrade of the chip found in the Quest Pro. The chip is able to support around twice the performance in comparison to the Quest 2. The resolution will be 4128-by-2208 pixels, around 15% larger - and the default refresh rate will be 120hz supported all around. And up to 512 GB of storage is available.

It’s safe to assume Wi-Fi 6E will be supported and even Wi-Fi 7. For crisp on-demand gaming and streaming. The ram will have doubled from 6 to 12GB.

So here you have some details, this is all we know for now but we can say that based on past performance and what is lined up, the Quest 3 will be a solid all-around option not only for people starting out in VR but also for catering to everyone's VR needs - Gaming, Entertainment and more.

It’s likely to outperform, as we are still waiting to confirm other details as the summer reveal nears. So just keep your eyes peeled, we have some game-changing tech around the corner.
